The Little Liar by Mitch Albom

The Little Liar is set during World War II in Thessaloniki, Greece, and centers around Nico Krispis, a young boy known for never telling a lie. He’s innocent, kind, and trusted by everyone in his Jewish community.

But Nico’s life is shattered when a Nazi officer manipulates him into unknowingly deceiving his fellow Jews, telling them they are being taken to safety, when in reality, they are being sent to concentration camps. Nico believes he is helping—but his words lead them to death.

When Nico realizes the horrifying truth, he stops speaking altogether, haunted by guilt and grief. He becomes a mute man wandering through postwar Europe, believing he can never be forgiven.
