Sunset Park by Paul Auster

A novel set in post-2008 financial crisis America. It follows Miles Heller, a young man haunted by guilt over his brother’s death, who cuts ties with his family and lives in Florida. After falling in love with a younger girl, Pilar, he returns to Brooklyn to avoid legal trouble.

There, Miles joins a group of squatters—his friend Bing, and two women, Alice and Ellen—in an abandoned house in Sunset Park. Each character is dealing with personal struggles, trying to rebuild their lives amid economic and emotional turmoil.
