All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven

The story begins with Finch and Violet meeting on the ledge of their school’s bell tower, both contemplating suicide. It’s unclear who saves whom, but this moment marks the start of their bond.

For a school project, they’re paired together to explore and report on the “natural wonders” of Indiana. As they wander together through quirky and beautiful places, their connection deepens. Finch helps Violet heal and re-engage with life, while Violet becomes one of the few people who truly sees and care for Finch.

But while Violet slowly begins to recover, Finch's mental health deteriorates. His inner pain grows heavier, and despite moments of joy, he increasingly disappears from school and social life. The story culminates in a tragic ending when Finch dies by suicide, leaving behind notes and memories that profoundly affect Violet.
